Car Servicing at 1st Mr Clutch

What Is a Car Service?

A car service is a routine maintenance check carried out at specific intervals — either after a set number of miles or after a certain amount of time. These intervals are recommended by your vehicle manufacturer and usually appear in your service schedule or on your dashboard in modern cars.

To keep your car running smoothly, we recommend servicing your vehicle every 6–12 months, depending on your mileage and the level of service required.

Each completed service is recorded and stamped in your service book by 1st Mr Clutch. A full and up-to-date service history not only keeps your car in great condition but also increases its resale value and makes it easier to sell.

1. Interim Service (Every 6 Months)

An Interim Service is perfect for drivers who want regular maintenance throughout the year — especially if you cover higher mileage.

Includes:

  • Engine oil change
  • Oil filter replacement
  • Checks on tyres, lights, hoses, brakes, and general condition
  • Coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid top-ups (if required)

If you’d like more details or want to book your service, please give us a call.

2. Full Service (Every 12 Months)

A Full Service covers a more extensive list of checks and replacements — ideal for vehicles that are serviced once a year or for lower-mileage drivers.

Typical Full Service includes:

  • Oil and filter change
  • New air filter
  • New fuel filter (diesel engines)
  • New spark plugs (petrol engines)
  • Leak, wear, and damage checks across the vehicle
  • Steering and driveshaft inspection
  • Wheels removed & brake components thoroughly checked
  • Wheel bearings inspected
  • Brake hoses, pipes, and cylinders checked
  • Suspension system inspected
  • Clutch operation checked (manual vehicles)
  • Handbrake tested and adjusted
  • Brake fluid tested/replaced if required
  • Service light reset
  • Tyres checked for wear, damage, and alignment issues
  • Exhaust system inspected for corrosion or leaks

A Full Service is also the perfect time to mention any issues or noises you’ve noticed. Our mechanics will investigate them during the service.
(Any extra repair work will be explained clearly before we proceed — no hidden costs.)

3. Major Service

A Major Service includes everything in a Full Service plus a timing belt or timing chain replacement when required.

Manufacturers recommend changing the timing belt/chain at specific mileage intervals to prevent serious engine damage.
At 1st Mr Clutch, we can carry out this important service and ensure your car remains safe and reliable.

How Long Does an MOT Take?

A standard MOT typically takes 45–60 minutes if no issues are found.
If repairs are required, we may need your vehicle for longer depending on the work involved.

As a VOSA-approved testing centre, we cannot allow a failed vehicle to be driven away unless:

  • The existing MOT certificate is still valid, or
  • You are driving it directly to a pre-booked repair or MOT appointment.

MOT failures are common – around 2 in 5 vehicles fail on their first attempt.
Whether the faults are minor or major, our mechanics can carry out the necessary repairs and get you back on the road with a valid MOT certificate.

If you’ve misplaced your MOT certificate, we can issue a replacement for just £10.

Driving without a valid MOT is illegal and can lead to prosecution. It may also invalidate your car insurance.

You can only drive your vehicle without a valid MOT if you are travelling to a pre-booked MOT appointment.
