What is an MOT?
An MOT (Ministry of Transport Test) is a yearly inspection required by law once your vehicle reaches three years of age. Its purpose is to ensure your car meets the UK’s road safety and environmental standards.
The MOT test checks whether your vehicle is safe and roadworthy. While it won’t prevent mechanical breakdowns, it ensures key systems such as brakes, steering, and suspension are in good working order.
The inspection also covers:
- Fuel system
- Exhaust and emissions
- Tyres and wheels
- Lights and indicators
- Windscreen and visibility
- Body structure
- Wipers, washers, seatbelts and key safety features
How Much Does an MOT Cost?
VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) sets the maximum MOT price at:
- £54.85 for cars
- £29.65 for motorbikes

How Long Does an MOT Take?
A standard MOT typically takes 45–60 minutes if no issues are found.
If repairs are required, we may need your vehicle for longer depending on the work involved.
As a VOSA-approved testing centre, we cannot allow a failed vehicle to be driven away unless:
- The existing MOT certificate is still valid, or
- You are driving it directly to a pre-booked repair or MOT appointment.
What Happens if My Car Fails?
MOT failures are common – around 2 in 5 vehicles fail on their first attempt.

Lost Your MOT Certificate?
If you’ve misplaced your MOT certificate, we can issue a replacement for just £10.
What if My MOT Has Expired?
Driving without a valid MOT is illegal and can lead to prosecution. It may also invalidate your car insurance.
You can only drive your vehicle without a valid MOT if you are travelling to a pre-booked MOT appointment.
